In many parts of Africa, power stability directly affects business performance. This is especially true in the hospitality industry, where lighting, air conditioning, refrigeration, and guest services must operate without interruption. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), frequent grid outages and unstable voltage often disrupt hotel operations and increase operating costs.
To address these challenges, Namkoo has successfully completed a 300kW / 430kWh hybrid solar power system for a hotel and homestay project in the DRC. This project demonstrates how solar energy storage can deliver reliable electricity, reduce costs, and support long-term business growth in demanding environments.
Hotels in the DRC face persistent power shortages. Grid outages can occur multiple times per day, forcing operators to rely heavily on diesel generators. This results in high fuel costs, noise pollution, and frequent maintenance issues.
The hotel owner approached Namkoo with a clear goal: build a system capable of delivering 24-hour stable electricity, while reducing dependence on generators and lowering long-term energy expenses. After an on-site assessment by Namkoo Africa’s local technical team, a customized hybrid solution was developed to match the hotel’s load profile and local grid conditions.

The completed system integrates solar generation, energy storage, and grid power into a unified solution designed for continuous operation.
• Solar Array:
300kW photovoltaic system using 500 units of 600W solar panels, optimized for high output and durability.
• Energy Storage Inverters:
150kW hybrid inverters that function as a power converter, intelligently managing energy flow between solar panels, batteries, and the grid.
• Battery Energy Storage System:
Two sets of 215kWh high-voltage lithium batteries, providing a total storage capacity of 430kWh.
• UPS Backup Battery Capability:
The system functions as a robust ups backup battery, ensuring seamless power delivery during grid outages without disruption to hotel operations.

During daylight hours, the solar panels generate electricity to power hotel loads such as guest rooms, kitchens, laundry equipment, and common areas. Excess solar energy is stored in the battery energy storage system.
When solar production decreases in the evening or during cloudy conditions, the batteries discharge to maintain stable power. If needed, the grid supplements the system, ensuring continuous electricity supply at all times.
In the event of a grid failure, the system automatically switches to battery and solar power. This transition is instant and seamless, allowing critical systems to continue running without interruption.
Power outages can damage a hotel’s reputation. With this solar power system, lighting, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and refrigeration remain fully operational, ensuring guest comfort and satisfaction at all times.
By maximizing solar generation and minimizing generator usage, the hotel significantly reduces fuel expenses and maintenance costs. Over time, this leads to substantial savings and a faster return on investment.

The hybrid inverter acts as an intelligent power converter, balancing energy sources and optimizing performance. This ensures efficient power delivery across varying load conditions.
The integrated battery energy storage system provides a dependable energy buffer, protecting the hotel from grid instability and voltage fluctuations.
Using clean solar energy reduces carbon emissions and supports sustainability goals. For hotels and homestays, this also enhances brand image and appeals to eco-conscious travelers.
